Consumer Information
The Board of Behavioral Sciences has a duty to protect California consumers of mental health services. As a California consumer, you deserve to feel protected. The Board regulates the practice of Clinical Social Work (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), and Educational Psychology (LEP). You can verify any person licensed or registered with the Board by using the Online License Verification feature.
The Board has a responsibility to investigate consumer complaints. Consumers can submit a complaint via the Consumer Complaint Form or through our Online Complaint Form. Once a consumer submits his or her complaint to the Board, the complaint process begins. The Board provides the public with detailed statistics on complaints received, filings, decisions, and withdrawals. The Board encourages you, should you have any questions about the complaint process or the Board’s role in consumer protection, to call the Enforcement Unit at (916) 574-7868.
Consumer protection is just one way the Board serves the public. The Board also assists consumers in finding mental health referral services, and informs the public of new new trends in the mental health professions, like psychotherapy over the Internet.
You can sign up to the Board’s Email Subscriber List to receive up-to-date information on Board issued Citations or Disciplinary Actions.
